A Villa Park man was charged with carjacking an Amazon delivery driver last week in the western suburb.

The night of April 21, the driver parked his personal vehicle near Danby Street and Kirkland Lane to make deliveries and when he returned, a man in dark-colored clothes pushed him to the ground and stole his 2006 Toyota Scion, according to a statement from the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office.

Multiple Amazon packages were stolen along with the Toyota, the sheriff’s said.

An anonymous tip two days later led officers to the parking lot of a Villa Park motel, where they found the Toyota and Jiovani Villa, 21, in the driver’s seat, the sheriff's office said.

Villa was taken into custody and allegedly admitted to stealing the vehicle and opening and selling the Amazon packages at a gas station in Chicago, the sheriff’s office said.

Villa was charged with vehicular hijacking, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, robbery and aggravated battery on a public way, the sheriff’s office said.

He was ordered held on a $100,000 bond. His next court date is scheduled for May 8.
