Teen rescued after car drives off bridge in Hegewisch; man missing

Witnesses told officers a man drove his white sedan through a retention net in the 12400 block of South Torrence Avenue, and went into the water as the bridge was going up.

A teen boy was rescued Sunday after a car drove off a bridge and crashed into the Calumet River Sunday in Hegewisch on the Far South Side.

Witnesses told officers a man drove his white sedan through a retention net in the 12400 block of South Torrence Avenue, and went into the Calumet River as the bridge was going up, Chicago police said.

A 16-year-old boy was rescued by a passing boat, police said. CPD’s Marine Unit is searching for the driver who remains missing.
