75 refurbished bikes donated by Working Bikes Chicago found their way to children ages 2 to 10 at the West Loop event.
Dozens of children rode away from Union Park happy on Saturday after a bike giveaway organized by Chicago Neighbors United.
In all, 75 refurbished bikes donated by Working Bikes Chicago found their way to children ages 2 to 10 at the West Loop event.
Each child getting a bike also got a new helmet, and some instruction in basic skills and bike safety through USA Cycling’s Let’s Ride program, led by Mari Holden, an Olympic medal-winning cyclist, as well as some bicycle safety ambassadors from the city’s Department of Transportation.
The safety camp was arranged with the help of the Intelligentsia Cup pro-am bicycle racing series, which conducts competitive bicycles races each summer in the Chicago area.
Working Bikes fixes up and distributes donated bikes, and also offers repair services.
