Security Detail for Harvey Mayor Christopher Clark Exchanges Gunfire With Suspect on Chicago's North Side

Several streets are blocked off and a large police presence has gathered on Chicago’s North Side after a security detail for Harvey Mayor Christopher Clark exchanged gunfire with an unidentified individual on Wednesday afternoon.

Sources tell NBC 5 that the mayor’s security detail was outside of his residence in the Goose Island neighborhood when shots were fired. That security detail then returned gunfire.

It is unknown at this time whether anyone was struck by gunfire. NBC 5 received a message stating that the mayor was “okay,” but did not elaborate whether he or anyone else was injured.

Chicago fire officials say that no transports occurred from the scene, but did not rule out a self-transport to an area hospital.

According to Total Traffic, Halsted is closed between Clybourn Avenue and North Avenue, while North Avenue is closed between Clybourn Avenue and Halsted.

Sky 5 flew over the scene just after 2:30 p.m. and observed a large police presence near the triangle formed by North Avenue, Halsted Street and Clybourn Avenue, causing traffic disruptions as an investigation remains underway.

We will have more details on this story as they develop.
