The Chicago Bears will definitely not be happy with their defensive play Sunday, but their offense was absolutely on fire against the Cincinnati Bengals.
That’s because the Bears racked up a staggering 576 yards of offense in the game, including a touchdown with just 17 seconds remaining that helped them to a 47-42 victory over the Bengals.
Things looked positively bleak after the Bengals scored 15 points in less than a minute of game time, recovering an onside kick and putting the Bears on the brink of a second straight defeat.
Caleb Williams and company didn’t flinch however, as the quarterback found rookie tight end Colston Loveland for a 58-yard touchdown reception with 17 seconds remaining to secure the victory.
According to Pro Football Reference’s Stathead tool, the Bears’ 576 yards of offense was their most in a single game in nearly 45 yards, and marks the second-most yards they’ve registered in a game in the Super Bowl era.
Remarkably, the Bears nearly had a perfect split of yardage in the game, with 293 passing yards and 283 rushing yards in the game.
According to Stathead, this game marked the first time in Bears history they’ve had at least 280 passing yards and 280 rushing yards in the same game.
The game also marked just the fifth time in the Super Bowl era that any team has pulled off that feat, though it’s happened four times now in the last 13 seasons, as Miami achieved it in a game in 2023 against the Denver Broncos.
Finally, Kyle Monangai’s 176 rushing yards in the game mark the second-most rushing yards a Bears rookie has had in a single game, with only Anthony Thomas’ 188 yards against the Bengals in October 2001 besting that mark.
The Bears will take that win into next week, as they face the New York Giants at Soldier Field.
