WATCH: Manhunt underway after dramatic high-speed police chase travels across Chicago

A high-speed police chase that started on Chicago’s West Side continued for several minutes, traveling to the South Side as an erratic vehicle went the wrong way down some of the city’s most-trafficked roads, leading to a crash and sparking a massive search for suspects.

The chase lasted nearly an hour before the vehicle plowed through gates and entered an industrial area near 71st and Pulaski, where three people exited and fled on foot, sparking a manhunt for suspects near 69th and Kedvale.

“We have a high-speed, extremely dangerous pursuit here on the South Side of Chicago that has been going on for the better part of a half hour,” Sky 5 reporter Mike Lorber said while covering the chase.

NBC Chicago’s Sky 5 helicopter followed the chase as the vehicle exceeded 100 mph at points, traveling on the Dan Ryan and Lake Shore Drive, at times going the wrong direction as a police helicopter also followed it.

The chase sparked a crash at 47th and Lake Park before continuing on, driving on the sidewalk to evade police, side-swiping vehicles and nearly causing numerous crashes along the way.

“It has driven in the wrong direction on Lake Shore Drive and other streets. It drove on the sidewalk in Bridgeport at 39th by the Dan Ryan, almost striking a Chicago police officer. This is a very, very dangerous situation,” Lorber said.

Initially, the vehicle was being tracked by a police helicopter, but police began chasing the vehicle after it caused crashes and dangerous situations, with alerts reporting the suspects inside are “armed and dangerous.”

Several police officers and squad cars were seen flooding the scene near where the occupants of the vehicle fled on foot. A police K9 was also brought in amid the manhunt.

Dozens of squad cars could be seen responding to the area as officers searched for suspects throughout at a residential area.

It was not immediately clear why police were chasing the vehicle, but footage appeared to show at least one person being taken into custody. A second masked individual was also seen being placed in handcuffs several minutes later.

It was not known if either person was connected to the vehicle involved in the chase, however.
