Jake Lamb lands on IL with strained quad, Luis Gonzalez optioned to Charlotte.

The White Sox recalled first baseman Gavin Sheets from Triple-A Charlotte and reinstated outfielder Billy Hamilton from the injured list Tuesday.

To make room on the roster, outfielder Jake Lamb was placed on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to June 28) with a strained right quadriceps and outfielder Luis González was optioned to Charlotte.

The left-handed Sheets, 25, has also seen action in the outfield at Charlotte, where he was batting .292/.352/.472 with seven homers, eight doubles, 33 RBI and 23 runs scored over 41 games. He has played in 26 games at first base — where he could see time starting Tuesday against the Twins — 15 in right field and two in left.

Sheets, a 2017 Sox second-round draft pick and the son of former major leaguer Larry Sheets, was with the Sox on June 3 and 4 but did not play.

Hamilton has been on the IL since June 6 with a strained right oblique. He is batting .217/.246/.406 with three doubles, two triples, two home runs, 10 RBI, 13 runs scored and five stolen bases.

Lamb was batting .224/.333/.424 with five home runs and 10 RBI in 31 games. He appeared to favor his leg after making a running catch in left field in a game against the Mariners Sunday at Guaranteed Rate Field, although it’s not immediately known when the injury occurred.

With Jose Abreu’s status for tonight’s game in doubt after he was hit by a pitch on the left knee Sunday, Sheets could be in the lineup soon.
