Officers responded to an apartment in the 15100 block of South King Drive and found the child shot in the leg.

A 4-year-old was found shot in the leg Saturday inside an apartment in south suburban Dolton.

Officers responded about 4 p.m. to an apartment in the 15100 block of South Dr. Martin Luther King Drive and found the child shot in the leg, Dolton spokesman Sean Howard said.

The child was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn and was expected to survive, Howard said.

When officers arrived, the mother of the child and another person were inside the apartment, according to Howard.

Additional details were not immediately available as Dalton police investigate.
