Tim Anderson and Yoan Moncada homered to help the Sox win 4-0 and reach a point they haven’t seen since Aug. 26, 2008.
Carlos Rodon keeps rising to new heights.
So do the White Sox.
In his first start following the all-star break, Rodon struck out 10 over seven scoreless innings to lead the Sox to a 4-0 win Sunday over the Astros. After losing their first five this year to Houston, the Sox have won two straight against a team they may have to beat in October.
The Sox also improved to 20 above .500 for the first time this year and the first time since Aug. 26, 2008.
Forced to win a spring-training battle for the fifth spot in the rotation, Rodon has been a big part of that success, earning his first all-star selection. Sunday was his fourth double-digit strikeout game of the year, and he set the team record with his 10th consecutive game with eight or more strikeouts, passing Juan Pizarro’s mark set in 1951.
Rodon, who only allowed one hit, isn’t the only Sox player setting records.
Tim Anderson extended his hitting streak to 15 - matching a career high - with his fifth-inning homer. The drive that gave the Sox a 3-0 lead also gave Anderson a hit and a run in his 11th consecutive contest, breaking Adam Eaton’s 2015 record.
The Sox took a 1-0 lead on Framber Valdez and the Astros in the second on Danny Mendick’s two-out single to left, bringing in Billy Hamilton. Mendick was starting for the first time since July 6, and his single came after Valdez hit Sox catcher Seby Zavala, pushing Hamilton to second.
Yoan Moncada then doubled the lead in the fourth with his sixth home run. The homer was his first since June 3 and first of the year as a right-handed hitter.
Anderson’s homer wasn’t the Sox’ last score. Adam Engel’s seventh-inning single brought in Mendick to make it 4-0.
