Third baseman is being further evaluated

White Sox third baseman Yoan Moncada left the team’s game against the Twins Thursday with a bruised right hand.

Moncada made an awkward head-first slide into third base on Jose Abreu’s single in the third inning, and appeared to roll over his hand. He remained down while training staff checked him over and stayed in the game, then did not take his position in the top of the fourth inning.

The Sox said Moncada was being further evaluated. Moncada missed Tuesday’s game against the Twins with a sore right shoulder.

Andrew Vaughn moved from left field to third base to take Moncada’s place. It was the first time Vaughn, a first baseman converted to the outfield this season, played third. Billy Hamilton entered the game in center field, moving Brian Goodwin to left field.

The Sox jumped to a 3-0 lead on a homer by Goodwin against Jose Berrios in the second and an RBI single by Yasmani Grandal and sacrifice fly by Gavin Sheets in the third.

The Twins scored four in the fifth against Carlos Rodon to take a 4-3 lead.
