Iapoce is the third hitting coach the Cubs have had since winning the World Series in 2016.

Anthony Iapoce will not return to his role as Cubs’ hitting coach, a source confirmed to the Sun-Times on Tuesday. Iapoce has been the team’s hitting coach since 2018 after being hired by then-manager Joe Maddon and stayed in the role after manager David Ross was hired before the 2020 season.

Aside from Iapoce who held the role for four seasons in Chicago, there hasn’t been a ton of continuity for Cubs’ hitting coaches. The Cubs, who finished the season 71-91, have had three hitting coaches since winning the World Series in 2016: John Mallee, Chili Davis and Iapoce.

It’s unknown if any other changes will be made on Ross’ staff, but with the team looking to make improvements in different areas going into 2022, a few changes should be expected.

No decision has been made on assistant hitting coach Chris Valaika, who was brought in prior to this season.
