Cade Horton leaves Brewers vs. Cubs opener with injury

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Cade Horton was forced to leave his Monday start against the Milwaukee Brewers due to a potential injury.

Horton, who has been one of the hottest pitchers in baseball in recent weeks, was forced to leave the game in the third inning after he walked Christian Yelich and hit Andrew Vaughn with a pitch.

Earlier in the inning Horton had been visited by Cubs trainers and manager Craig Counsell, and appeared to be looking at a finger on his pitching hand, with speculation that he was dealing with a blister.

After walking Yelich and hitting Vaughn, Horton was removed from the game and replaced with pitcher Drew Pomeranz.

The timing for a pitching injury couldn’t be worse for the Cubs, as they are playing a doubleheader against the division-leading Brewers on Monday and will play a total of 11 games in 10 days, with their next off-day not coming until Aug. 25.

We will update this story with more details as they become available.
