What to Know
- President Trump is meeting face-to-face with Russia’s Vladimir Putin this afternoon for a pivotal Alaska summit that could reshape both the war in Ukraine and relations between Moscow and Washington.
- Trump told European leaders this week that his goal is to secure a ceasefire and that he does not intend to discuss any possible divisions of territory. Days earlier, though, he said there would “be some land swapping” between Russia and Ukraine.
- Meanwhile, Russia attacked Ukraine overnight with missiles and drones ahead of the Putin-Trump summit. Ukrainian strikes injured 12 in Russia’s Kursk and Belgorod regions.
- In an escalation of the political standoff over Texas’ redistricting attempts that would give the GOP five new seats, California Gov. Gavin Newsom officially asked voters to approve a new congressional map.
It will be the first time the two leaders have met in person since 2019. Follow along for live updates.
