Driver of stolen vehicle dies in suburban Ingleside head-on crash

A man has died after he allegedly drove a stolen vehicle into oncoming traffic in suburban Ingleside Wednesday.

According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, a man was driving a Honda sedan westbound on Route 134 at approximately 5 a.m. when he veered into the eastbound lanes of the roadway for unknown reasons.

The Honda then collided head-on with an approaching GMC work truck, according to police. The driver of that work truck called 911 to summon officers to the scene.

The driver of the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police, while the driver of the GMC was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

It is believed at this time that the Honda had been stolen from a suburban Fox Lake gym on Tuesday. A preliminary investigation also indicated that the driver of the Honda had an open bottle of whiskey in his lap at the time of the crash.

No further information on the crash was immediately available.
