A United Airlines flight from Colorado to California was diverted to Utah after the plane’s windshield cracked mid-flight, a post from the National Transportation Safety Board said.
The incident comes as the Chicago-based airline said a recent flight from Chicago to Houston blew two tires upon landing.
United Airlines Flight 1093 was en route from Denver to Los Angeles on Thursday, Oct. 16, when the plane’s “windscreen” cracked while in flight near Moab, Utah, the NTSB said in a post on X.
The airplane was diverted to Salt Lake City as a result of the incident, the post said.
The incident remains under investigation, with the NTSB gathering radar, weather and flight recorder data, the post said. The windshield will be sent to a laboratory for examination.
United Airlines confirmed to NBC Chicago the plane, which was carrying 134 passengers and six crew members, was diverted “to address damage to its multilayered windshield.”
According to United, aircraft windshields are “designed to function safely in case any layer sustains damage.”
The airline arranged for another aircraft to take passengers on the rest of their journey to Los Angeles, United said, with maintenance teams working to return the Boeing 737 Max 8 to service.
It wasn’t immediately clear if there were any injuries associated with the damage.
No further details about what caused the windshield to crack were provided.
