Beloved fan-favorite store opening at suburban Westfield Old Orchard Mall

A giant Lego store will soon open at a popular suburban shopping mall, just in time for the holiday season.

The new, 2,067 square-foot store, at Westfield Old Orchard Mall in Skokie, will officially open to the public Thursday, Dec. 5, according to a release. The store will hold at 10 a.m. ribbon cutting, the release said, with promotions throughout the weekend while supplies last.

According to the company, the Old Orchard store will be home to the “largest range of Lego products,” including exclusives, a pick and build wall, a mini tower and play tables.

“LEGO Stores are true community hubs — spaces where new and existing LEGO fans of all ages can find inspiration and immersive experiences to build upon their passions. That’s why we are investing to expand our retail portfolio across the United States and are thrilled to be opening a new LEGO Store in Skokie,” VP of Lego retail experience Shweta Munshi said in the release.

The store will be located on the east side of the mall near Nordstrom, J.Crew and lululemon, a mall map showed, with daily hours of 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. during the week. The store will close at 9 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, the mall site said, and at 7 p.m. on Sundays.

The Lego store is part of a slew of new shops opening this winter at the mall. Ahead of Black Friday, beloved clothing retailer Abercrombie & Fitch made its return to the mall in a “newly refreshed space.” Blue Bottle Coffee, salad shop Sweetgreen and global collectible store POP Mart will also open this month.

The mall will also host a number of seasonal celebrations, including photos with Santa through Dec 24. For Hannukah, a Menorah lighting will take place nightly beginning Dec. 14.

The new stores come as the suburban Skokie mall continues to undergo a major transformation, including plans to redevelop and demolish the former Bloomingdale’s building to make way for other stores, restaurants and apartments.
