You may want to be mindful of how much is tossed in the trash and recycle bins over the holidays as garbage and recycling collection services are delayed in many parts of the Chicago area on New Year’s Day.
Collection services run by Lakeshore Recycling Services, which covers much of the region, are delayed due to the holiday.
LRS delays their collection services that fall on a holiday or the day after a holiday by one day.
Thursday and Friday collections will be postponed this week in areas serviced by LRS, including Schaumburg, Maywood, North Chicago, Evanston, Darien and several other townships in Cook and Lake Counties.
There will be no trash or recycling services citywide on New Year’s Day in Chicago, according to the city’s website.
Residents unsure of when their garbage or recycle will be collected can typically find pickup details on their local government’s website.
Some municipalities have posted on their social media about the change in the collection schedule.
