Chicago-area school closings: How to check your school's status

With parts of the Chicago area dealing with heavy snow Sunday and with the prospect of frigid wind chills Monday, some schools are switching to e-learning.

Parts of Chicago have received in excess of six inches of snow Sunday, and that snow is expected to move into northwest Indiana as the day moves along, with lake-effect snow helping to bolster accumulations in the area.

After that snow begins to move out of the area, frigid temperatures are expected to again sweep over the region, with overnight lows hovering around zero degrees and wind chills potentially dropping to 20-to-30 degrees below zero in some locations.

As a result, numerous schools have announced a switch to e-learning because of the wintry conditions.

That list includes Joliet School District 86, one of the area’s largest districts.

All Crete-Monee schools, including all District 201 schools and Crete-Monee High School, will also switch to e-learning on Monday, as will University Park schools.

Schools in Lyons and Park Forest are also impacted by the switch to e-learning.

Crown Point, Indiana schools will also switch to e-learning due to heavy snow and forecasted cold, officials said.

Chicago Public Schools students will return to in-person learning on Monday, the district announced earlier Sunday.
