Cubs knock off Diamondbacks for 10th straight win at Wrigley Field

The Chicago Cubs continued their winning ways at home, as Shota Imanaga and Ian Happ helped the team to a 2-0 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Cubs have now won four games in a row overall and 10 games in a row at home, running their record to 21-12 on the season so far.

Happ hammered his eighth home run of the season in the game and added a double and a triple for good measure, while Imanaga threw seven innings of shutout baseball, giving up just four hits.

Ben Brown got a two-inning save for the Cubs, the second straight day a Chicago reliever closed out the final two innings of the contest.

The Cubs’ 21-12 start is their best through 33 games since the 2016 season, which also happens to be the last time the Cubs won 10 consecutive games, a feat they pulled off earlier this season.

The Cubs didn’t get a lot of offense in the game, but Happ certainly did his part, hammering a home run to right field off of Ryne Nelson in the second inning to give the Cubs the lead.

From there Imanaga largely cruised even with only a one-run lead, holding the Diamondbacks to just four hits and one walk while striking out five batters in yet another solid outing as he lowered his season ERA to 2.40.

The Cubs were able to add an insurance run in the eighth inning after Happ slashed a triple to right field, scoring on a sacrifice fly by Seiya Suzuki.

Brown then induced three consecutive groundouts in the ninth inning to nail down the save for the North Siders.

The Cubs will go for the sweep over Arizona on Sunday, sending Matthew Boyd to the hill to oppose Merrill Kelly.
