Chicago storm uproots massive tree, upends sidewalk in McKinley Park

A massive tree toppled and upended a sidewalk in Chicago amid a severe storm that slammed the region with strong winds on Wednesday afternoon, video showed.

The huge tree could be seen lying across a street near 35th and South Paulina Avenue in the city’s McKinley Park neighborhood around 4:15 p.m., video showed.

Heavy rainfall and strong winds left the area covered in debris from trees.

More than 290,000 ComEd customers were without power across the Chicago area as of 4:50 p.m. and ground stops were issued for both O’Hare and Midway Airports until at least 5 p.m. and 5:45 p.m., respectively.

NBC Chicago viewers also submitted pictures of large, downed trees in suburban Hinsdale and Crest Hill.
