Indiana prosecutors took to social media to say they were “disappointed” by the number of drug-related incidents during three nights of Phish concerts last weekend, but fans quickly lit up the comments section with a response of their own.
In their message on Facebook Monday, the Hamilton County prosecutor’s office said during three days of jams at the Ruoff Music Center, law enforcement agencies seized “significant quantities” of suspected psilocybin mushrooms, methamphetamine, LSD, heroin, fentanyl, MDMA, marijuana, and nitrous oxide.
“Frankly, we are disappointed in the number of people who showed up to engage in illicit behavior,” the agency wrote in their message, adding that five people were arrested for “major-felony level drug dealing and/or possession offenses.”
“Ruoff Music Center is a treasure in Hamilton County, bringing a diverse array of entertainment to Noblesville each season,” they continued. “While the vast majority of concertgoers aren’t dealing drugs and endangering the safety of others, officers will find and hold accountable those who are. Law enforcement will not tolerate the wrongdoers who threaten the safety and enjoyment of those who just want to enjoy the show.”
Fans and other users quickly took to the comment section on the post to respond.
“That’s like going to a Girl Scout convention and being confused why they’re selling cookies…” one user wrote.
“Finding drugs at a Phish concert, EXCELLENT use of police resources. Next up, finding birds in sky,” another commented.
“That’s cool and all but did you catch that 30+ minute Tweezer?” one person stated.
“In related news, the sky is blue. The grass is still green,” another wrote.
Some users criticized the tone of the post and said it didn’t match the scenes they witnessed.
“I was working Phish, and it had to be one of the most chill weekends Ive seen a Phish weekend be,” one person commented.
“I was there all 3 nights working as a driver. Didn’t drink or do any illegal drugs. All I saw all 3 nights were people having a great time and living and loving life,” one comment stated.
The band has not publicly addressed the comments from officials.
