The Chicago Blackhawks' 2026-27 schedule released as NHL embarks on new era

The Chicago Blackhawks’ full 2026-27 schedule has been released, and like other NHL teams, they’ll be embarking on a new era.

That’s because this season’s schedule will expand from 82 games to 84, with the league adjusting the slate after expanding to 32 teams in recent years and eyeing the potential for further expansion down the road.

As for the Blackhawks, they will once again open their season on the road, with a team spokesperson saying the club is playing their first game on the road for the ninth consecutive season.

That game will be played on Tuesday, September 29 when the Blackhawks take on the Vegas Golden Knights, who are fresh off yet another Stanley Cup Final appearance this season.

Speaking of the Stanley Cup Final, the reigning champion Carolina Hurricanes will make a visit to Chicago early in the season, battling the Blackhawks on October 10.

That game comes just a few days after the Blackhawks’ home opener, which will take place October 6 when the St. Louis Blues come to town to renew their rivalry with Chicago.

Home-cooking will be strong for the Blackhawks on several occasions this season, with two seven-game homestands on the docket. That includes a run of October games that will allow the team to get into the swing of the season without having to leave United Center ice.

The Blackhawks’ longest road trip of the season will take place later in the season, with a five-game swing in early January.

For those looking to travel abroad to see the Blackhawks, the team will head to Europe for games on December 18 and 20 against the Ottawa Senators, with those contests being played in Dusseldorf, Germany.

Other key dates on the calendar include a visit from No. 1 overall draft pick Gavin McKenna and the Toronto Maple Leafs on November 17, what could be Alex Ovechkin’s final game in Chicago when the Capitals travel to Illinois on March 10, and a battle with Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins on October 13.
