A suspect is in custody after he allegedly made himself at home at the Macy’s on State Street in downtown Chicago.
According to authorities, the suspect allegedly stole clothes and put them on while he was inside the store, then helped himself to some food in one of the restaurants inside the store in a bizarre overnight robbery.
On June 28, security footage at the Loop store showed a man with a backpack taking clothing off of racks and putting some of those clothes on, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office.
The man is then seen helping himself to a meal inside one of the restaurants in the store, then left the building just before 3:30 a.m.
The case went cold for approximately a month before the alleged perpetrator was spotted outside the store on August 3, according to authorities.
Police said the man was wearing the same shoes and had the same backpack as the alleged burglar, and he matched a description given to authorities. He was taken into custody without incident.
The 53-year-old suspect now faces charges of burglary and felony retail theft in connection with the incident, according to authorities.
