Chicago Cubs outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong has made even more history Saturday as he continues to put together an incredible season.
Crow-Armstrong entered Saturday’s game as the MLB leader in Wins Above Replacement at 7.9, and he bolstered his MVP credentials with a performance to remember, as he clubbed three home runs against the Cincinnati Reds.
The home runs are helping him as he tries to become the first Cubs player to ever hit 40 home runs and steal 40 bases in a single season, and he also made some other history along the way.
According to the Cubs, Crow-Armstrong is now the youngest player in team history to hit three home runs in a single game after his incredible performance, which was capped off by a three-run bomb in the seventh inning of the contest.
According to MLB’s Sarah Langs, Crow-Armstrong now has nine career games in which he has registered at least 10 total bases. That’s two more games than any player has before the age of 25 since at least 1900.
What’s more, Crow-Armstrong now has the fifth-most career games with 10 or more total bases in Cubs history, with Sammy Sosa, who was at Wrigley Field on Saturday, and Billy Williams holding the club record with 12.
Of those games, five of them have come this season alone, and according to Langs, only Nelson Cruz has ever had more in a single season, with six of those games during the 2019 campaign.
Finally, Crow-Armstrong has become just the fourth player in Cubs history to hit three or more home runs in a game and to hit for the cycle in the same season since Andre Dawson achieved the feat in 1987, according to ESPN’s Jesse Rogers.
Crow-Armstrong and the Cubs will hope to capture a series win over the Reds on Sunday night at Wrigley Field, with the game airing on NBC Chicago.
