As cities around the U.S. prepare to celebrate “Dolly Day” this week, a number of Chicago-area businesses are getting in on the tribute, offering deals and specials in honor of the late legend.
Several cities and at least one state have declared Sept. 25 “Dolly Parton Day,” noting the numbers nine two five make up those of one of the singer’s most popular hits.
While no legislation has been passed in Illinois, the city plans to “unofficially” celebrate the holiday. Meanwhile, places like California have legally declared Sept. 25 “Dolly Parton Day,” with SB-931 being passed on Sept. 1.
Across Chicago, businesses and organizations are taking part in honoring the country music icon with specialty offerings of $9.25.
Here’s a roundup of some of the deals:
Anti-Cruelty Society
The Anti-Cruelty Society plans to celebrate Parton’s life and legacy by offering adoptions at just $9.25 Friday.
Located at 510 N. LaSalle Drive, the Chicago shelter said the deal was inspired by Parton’s “9 to 5” song.
Goddess and the Grocer
Goddess and the Grocer will celebrate “Dolly Weekend,” offering a $9.25 breakfast or lunch special and Dolly cookies or butterfly cupcakes Sept. 25-27.
The Protein Bar
The Protein Bar plans to offer a “limited-edition shake” featuring edible glitter available on the day.
“A shake that sparkles inside and out, just like Dolly herself,” a post from the store read.
Twenty-five percent of all sales on Sept. 25 will also be donated to Parton’s Imagination Library.
Land And Sea Dept., Lonesome Rose Forever, Sweethearts Chicago, Dicey’s Pizza Tavern and Parsons Chicken
“In honor of our angel queen Dolly, we are celebrating her spirit of love and generosity with DOLLY DAY on 9 two 5,” the group of restaurants and bars wrote on social media.
The four locations plan to offer drink specials that will each bring $5 donations for the Dollywood Foundation.
