In another sign of the arrival of fall, Chicago’s beaches and outdoor pools are set to close for the season.
According to the Chicago Park District’s website, the city’s 23 beaches will officially close to swimmers for the season after Monday, the traditional end of the outdoor swimming season in the city.
After 7 p.m. Monday, beaches will still be available for residents looking to enjoy the sights and sounds of the beach, but swimming will be prohibited, as lifeguards will no longer be staffing towers after Labor Day.
While some of the city’s outdoor pools have already closed for the season as lifeguards begin their school years, the remaining 20 pools that are still open will close after Monday, according to the park district.
Fortunately for area swimmers, there is some good news.
Beginning Tuesday, the city’s indoor pools will reopen for open swim time, and will reopen for lap swims according to officials.
What’s more, fall aquatic programs will get underway on September 21.
Finally, many splash pads and other so-called “water play” features will also remain open for several more weeks. According to the park district, more than 200 of those attractions will remain open through the end of September, with exceptions for those undergoing maintenance.
