How to check voter registration in Illinois, Indiana before Election Day

The 2026 midterm elections are nearly upon us, with Election Day just two days away on Tuesday.

Control of both chambers of Congress is up for grabs, but there are also dozens of local and statewide races on ballots of millions of voters this election season.

That is also true in Illinois, where the state’s voters will decide statewide offices, including an open U.S. Senate seat, and in Indiana, where voters are choosing members of Congress, as well as a new Secretary of State.

With that election so close, voters may want to check their registration status, as well as information on their polling places.

Here’s how you can do so in both Illinois and Indiana.

Illinois Voter Registration Lookup

Illinois voters can check their registration on the state Board of Elections’ website. They will need to provide their first and last name, their date of birth and their five-digit ZIP code to retrieve their information.

Once a voter finds their information, they will also be given information on which districts they are voting in, as well as their polling place for Tuesday’s election.

Can I Still Register to Vote in Illinois?

Although regular voter registration and online voter registration are both closed for the 2026 election in Illinois, same-day voter registration is still available via “Grace Period Registration.”

Voters can go to participating polling locations and can show two forms of identification, including at least one with a mailing address. You can find a full list of acceptable documentation here.

The same rule holds for voters who want to change their address on their registration, according to the state Board of Elections.

That voter can then cast a ballot immediately.

How Indiana Voters Can Check Their Registration

Indiana voters can check their registration status at this website, along with finding information on their polling places.

Indiana does NOT offer same-day voter registration, so voters who are not yet registered will not be eligible to cast a ballot in this year’s election.
