A Chicago suburb has been named the best suburb to raise a family in the U.S., according to a new ranking.
Niche.com revealed its list of 2026 Best Suburbs to Raise a Family, naming Clarendon Hills, a suburb about 23 miles southwest of Chicago, at the top of the ranking.
The ranking looked at several “key factors that are meaningful for families,” according to Niche, including things like the quality of local schools, safety, affordability and access to family amenities.
Other Chicago-area suburbs to make the top 10 include Kildeer, Western Springs and Kenilworth, which ranked at No. 7, 9 and 10, respectively.
The ranking is the latest after a different Chicago suburb was declared the best city to live in in America from the same publication.
Naperville ranked at the top of the report’s “Best Cities” to live in, marking the third consecutive year to do so.
“This year’s top-ranked places are smaller, walkable communities within major metro areas, giving residents access to jobs, amenities, and transit while maintaining connected neighborhoods,” the list said. “Many have populations under 15,000, as demand grows for places that balance urban convenience with neighborhood livability.”
Clarendon Hills was also listed at the top of the “best places” to live in. The report defines “Cities” as municipal areas with populations of 100,000 or more, editors noted.
Other cities to make the “best suburbs to raise a family” list were Devon, Pennsylvania; Kensington, New York; and Chesterbrook, Pennsylvania.
