Former Dolton Mayor Tiffany Henyard is attempting a political comeback, winning a countywide primary election in Georgia.
Henyard, who was elected Dolton mayor and Thornton Township supervisor as a Democrat, ran unopposed in the Republican primary for Fulton County Commissioner in Georgia and netted just over 1,100 votes in Tuesday’s election.
“Thank you Fulton County for showing your support during tis primary election,” Henyard said in an Instagram post.
In a four-way race in the Democratic primary, Helen Zenobia Willis beat out Sojourner Grimmett by just over 3,000 votes.
Earlier this year, Henyard became a legal resident of the state of Georgia and was ruled eligible to run in the Fulton County race. Calling her comeback “Project Phoenix,” she said she was aiming to move past the controversy that dogged here political career in Illinois.
“This is project phoenix in the making, and project phoenix is me rising, me showing the world what it looks like to come out of controversy,” she said shortly before starting to sing along to Mariah Carey’s hit 2009 song “Obsessed” while referencing news coverage of her several controversies while in office.
Chief among those controversies is an ongoing federal probe into her spending of taxpayer dollars while she was serving as Dolton mayor.
Former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot was tasked with investigating Henyard’s spending in office, and her report revealed eye-popping numbers, such as $218,000 spent on Amazon using village credit cards during her term as mayor. She also spent more than $170,000 in travel-related costs, and there were numerous examples of expenditures that were never approved and did not have receipts, according to Lightfoot.
Henyard was also sued dozens of times in a variety of cases, all the while denying wrongdoing and blasting investigations into her conduct.
Amid that controversy, Henyard lost the Democratic nomination for Thornton Township supervisor to Napoleon Harris in 2025, then was blown out in the Dolton mayoral race by now-Mayor Jason House.
