Michigan Avenue isn’t the only Chicago-area location getting a Hello Kitty Cafe — the adorable, viral shop is set to also open at a busy mall in the north suburbs.
According to a press release from Westfield Old Orchard Mall, a Hello Kitty Cafe is “coming soon” to the Skokie mall. Hello Kitty Cafes are already open in other cities, including in Las Vegas, Santa Clara in California and Vancouver in Canada, offering merchandise along with a menu of freshly baked cookies, cakes, donuts, seasonal goodies and handmade drinks. Some Hello Kitty Cafes serve afternoon tea or cocktails, according to the Sanrio site.
The mall revealed the cafe was “coming soon” as part of a news release announcing summer programming, but it wasn’t immediately clear where in the mall or when the cafe was slated to open. No further details on the new suburban location were provided, and the mall did not immediately respond to NBC Chicago’s request for comment.
Other new stores are also scheduled to open soon at the mall, including Squishable and COS. According to the release, the mall will also host a number of free summer events, including kids club events and a summer concert series featuring Smash Mouth.
“Old Orchard has always been a place where people come together, and summer brings a new energy to the center,” Maegen Akers, General Manager of Westfield Old Orchard said in the release. “From live music and outdoor fitness to brand new programming and family fun, we’re focused on creating experiences that give guests more reasons to gather, connect and enjoy the season.”
