Illinois woman wins $1 million Powerball prize after randomly choosing numbers

While many Powerball players have set numbers they like to play, an Illinois resident’s willingness to shake things up paid off big time.

The lucky player purchased her ticket for the April 29 Powerball drawing at an Ayerco Convenience Center in Carman, Illinois. Instead of having a machine pick her numbers, she did the work herself, and she was rewarded handsomely.

Diana, who did not share her last name, matched all five white ball numbers in the April 29 game, collecting a cool $1 million.

“I couldn’t believe it — I picked these numbers randomly,” said Diana. “I’ve won smaller prizes before, but this is the first time I’ve won a million dollars.”

The store that sold the winning ticket will receive a $10,000 bonus, according to the Illinois Lottery.

Diana told the Lottery she would buy a new car, take a cruise and visit Las Vegas with her winnings.

Powerball drawings take place Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 9:59 p.m. Central time. Players must match the five white balls and the golden Powerball to win the jackpot prize, with lesser prizes available for fewer matches.

Tickets can be purchased at participating retailers, on the Illinois Lottery’s app, and on its website.
