The Chicago Cubs have traded pitcher Jameson Taillon to the Toronto Blue Jays, the team announced Sunday.
Taillon, who is in the last year of a contract he signed with the Cubs prior to the 2023 season, was designated for assignment by the team last week, but now he’ll find a new MLB home after the team traded him away Sunday.
According to the Cubs, they also sent cash to the Blue Jays in the trade in exchange for a player to be named later.
In 15 starts this season, Taillon has allowed 25 home runs in just 76 innings, with a 5.92 ERA and a negative-1.0 WAR, one of the worst marks among starting pitchers in the league.
His last two seasons with the Cubs had been solid, as he posted a 3.68 ERA with 98 punchouts in 129.2 innings during the 2025 campaign.
It’s not known what the Blue Jays will do with Taillon when he joins their 40-man roster, but interestingly Toronto will be traveling to the Friendly Confines on Thursday for a makeup game against the Cubs, with first pitch set for 1:20 p.m. in that contest.
